Douro Valley: A Vineyard Picnic with Wine & Local Flavours

We settle beneath the shade of a vineyard terrace in the heart of the Douro Valley, with rows of vines, silvery olive groves and the river unfolding below us. A basket of Portuguese flavours, a bottle of wine and an open afternoon create an experience that feels wonderfully simple—an invitation to sit, share and enjoy the landscape without rushing anywhere else.

The Experience

A Picnic Above the Douro

Our picnic is set on a shaded terrace overlooking the vineyards, olive groves and Douro River. It is a peaceful setting for a long lunch outdoors, surrounded by the landscape responsible for some of the region’s most celebrated wines.

Portuguese Flavours to Share

The picnic basket is filled with a selection of Portuguese delicacies. Depending on the basket chosen, we might find fresh bread, marinated olives, local cheeses, smoked ham, grilled almonds, traditional savoury pastries, fresh salads and Portuguese sweets such as pastel de nata. A vegetarian basket is also available.

Wine Among the Vines

We are welcomed with a refreshing rosé Port and tonic before settling into our picnic. A bottle of red or white wine accompanies the food, allowing us to linger over lunch while looking out across the vines and surrounding valley.

Beyond the Experience

For those wanting to spend longer among the vines, vineyard visits and wine tastings are offered separately. We can wander through the terraced landscape, learn more about the traditions of Port production and finish with a tasting before or after our picnic. These experiences require their own booking and should not be considered part of the picnic itself.
