Cape Town: A Wild Food Foraging & Fire-Cooked Feast
We spend the day at the edge of Cape Point, where fynbos-covered mountains meet the salt air of the peninsula and the landscape becomes our pantry. Guided through the surrounding gardens and wild terrain, we learn to recognise edible plants, herbs and indigenous flavours growing quietly around us. What we gather changes with the seasons, making each experience a reflection of what the Cape landscape is offering at that particular moment.
Foraging from the Landscape
We begin slowly, walking through the edible landscape while learning how to identify and sustainably harvest wild ingredients. Depending on the season, the experience may introduce us to indigenous plants, edible weeds, wild herbs and aromatic fynbos, with the emphasis as much on understanding the landscape as filling our baskets.
There is something wonderfully grounding about discovering that ingredients we might normally walk past have their own flavours, uses and stories.
Cooking Together over Fire
Our harvest eventually makes its way back to the kitchen, where the experience moves from gathering to cooking. Alongside the chefs, we take part in an interactive fire-cooking session, learning how these hyper-local ingredients can become part of a meal rather than simply observing from the sidelines.
The fire, freshly gathered ingredients and open-air surroundings give the afternoon an almost elemental simplicity.
A Feast in the Glasshouse
The experience ends around the table in the property's beautiful Glasshouse, surrounded by gardens and the wild Cape landscape. A multi-course feast brings together the flavours we've encountered throughout the day, accompanied by local wines and botanical cocktails.
The private Wild Food Forage Adventure lasts around four hours, giving us enough time to walk, gather, learn, cook and finally sit down together without the experience feeling rushed.
We come to gather food from the wild, and linger for the fire, the shared table and the pleasure of tasting the Cape landscape one ingredient at a time.
