We spend the day discovering the Cape Winelands at its gentlest pace — on horseback. Leaving the roads behind, we ride into a landscape of vineyards, open farmland and mountain valleys, following quiet trails that reveal a slower side of wine country. The experience brings together two of the region’s defining pleasures: time outdoors and wine grown from the land around us.
Through the Winelands on Horseback
We set out with our guide and allow the landscape to unfold gradually around us. Instead of moving quickly between estates, we travel along rural tracks and through vineyard country, with rows of vines, farmland and the Cape mountains forming the backdrop.
There is time to settle into the rhythm of the horse, notice the changing landscape and simply enjoy being outside — making the journey itself as memorable as where we eventually stop.
Wine along the Way
Our ride is paired with time at a local wine estate, where we step out of the saddle and discover another expression of the surrounding landscape through its wines.
Rather than treating the tasting as a separate excursion, it becomes part of the journey: horseback through the countryside, a pause among the vines, and wine enjoyed close to where it was grown.
A Slower Way through Wine Country
What we love most is the simplicity of the day. There is no need to rush between tasting rooms or follow the usual Winelands itinerary. We experience the countryside from within it — horses beneath us, mountains ahead and vineyards stretching quietly alongside the trail.
We come to ride through the vines, and linger for the wine, the mountain air and the pleasure of discovering the Winelands slowly.
