Barcelona: A Hidden Masia at the Foot of Montserrat

We stay within an old Catalan masia at the foot of Montserrat, where stone walls, Mediterranean forest, and the extraordinary silhouette of the mountain shape the landscape around us. Dating back to the fifteenth century, the house carries traces of another time, yet the feeling is wonderfully simple: waking to mountain views, wandering beneath the trees, and allowing the countryside to decide the pace of our days.

An Old Masia in the Mountains

The house has been standing here since 1496, and much of its character remains visible in the stonework and historic architectural details. Inside, old materials meet quieter contemporary touches, while the intimate scale of just twelve rooms keeps the atmosphere closer to a private country house than a conventional hotel.

Some rooms look directly towards Montserrat; others open towards the forest or peaceful inner courtyard. We can wake slowly, find a corner outdoors, or simply watch the changing light against the mountain.

Days beneath Montserrat

Here, the landscape becomes part of the stay. Olive and almond fields stretch around the property, while direct access to the mountain makes it easy to spend our days walking through the surrounding natural park.

We can follow the trails independently, explore further on an electric bicycle, or simply remain close to the house and let the day unfold between the gardens, forest and mountain views.

Slow Mornings & Quiet Afternoons

There is little reason to rush. Breakfast brings together organic ingredients and regional produce, while the garden and swimming pool give us somewhere to settle during warmer afternoons.

The pleasure here is less about filling the day with activities and more about having space for whatever feels right — a long walk, a swim, a book beneath the trees, or an afternoon with nowhere else to be.

We come for the mountain rising beyond the old stone walls, and linger for the stillness found beneath it.
