Barcelona: A Centuries-Old Masia Made for Slow Days

We stay within a centuries-old Catalan masia in the quiet landscapes of the Plana de Vic, where old stone walls, timber beams, gardens, and traces of rural life create a sense that the house has grown naturally with its surroundings. More than seven centuries of history remain within its architecture, yet the atmosphere feels warm rather than formal — somewhere we can settle in, slow our pace, and experience a gentler side of Catalonia.

A House with Centuries Behind It

The character of the old masia reveals itself gradually. Historic stone walls sit alongside high ceilings and exposed beams, while original architectural details remind us how long this house has belonged to the landscape. Many of the rooms have been shaped around the existing structure rather than imposing something entirely new upon it, giving different corners of the property their own character.

We can spend an afternoon moving between the garden and the quieter spaces indoors, find a place beside the fireplace when the weather turns cooler, or simply enjoy the feeling of staying somewhere where history remains pleasantly visible.

The Quiet Landscapes of Osona

Beyond the house lies the rural landscape around Vic, positioned between the Pyrenees and Montseny. It gives us a different side of the Barcelona region — greener, quieter, and shaped by small villages and countryside rather than the energy of the coast or city.

Days here can be wonderfully simple. We can explore the surrounding area, wander through nearby villages, spend time outdoors, and return to the garden without feeling the need to fill every hour.

A Stay Built around the Table

Food is one of the defining pleasures here. The kitchen is led by Catalan chef Nandu Jubany and draws from the gastronomic traditions of the surrounding region, balancing familiar local cooking with more contemporary interpretations. Fresh seasonal produce runs through the menus, making the table feel closely connected to the landscape beyond the house.

We can allow dinner to become the centre of the evening — the kind of long meal that makes staying in the countryside feel less about what we see and more about how we spend our time.

There are quieter rituals waiting inside too. An indoor pool offers somewhere to retreat when we want a slower afternoon, while treatments can be added for moments when doing very little feels like exactly the right plan.
