Atlas Mountains: A Berber Craft House & Weaving Visit

In the villages beneath the Atlas Mountains, we step inside a quieter side of Moroccan life, where traditional craft is still passed from one generation to the next. Our visit takes us to local weaving and woodwork houses, where time is spent meeting the artisans, discovering the skills behind their work and sharing mint tea together.

The Experience

Into the Mountain Villages

We leave the kasbah behind and travel towards the neighbouring villages of Tansghart and Tamgounssi. Here, small community craft houses have been created to preserve traditional skills while providing opportunities for young women and men from the surrounding area.

Inside the Craft Houses

At the weaving and woodwork centres, we have the chance to see local craftsmanship at close hand. We learn more about the techniques being practised, the pieces being created and the community projects that continue to support these traditions.

Mint Tea & Conversation

The visit unfolds slowly rather than as a formal tour. Over a glass of traditional mint tea, there is time to hear more about the people behind the craft houses and the work taking place within the surrounding Berber communities.
