Bordeaux: A Farmhouse Stay Among the Vineyards

In the countryside of Bordeaux, we settle into a restored 18th-century farmhouse at the heart of a wine estate. Thick stone walls, original beams and traditional interiors retain the character of an old rural home, while the entire farmhouse is ours for the stay, giving us the freedom to settle in rather than simply pass through. Outside, vineyards and pasture form the everyday landscape, and the terrace looks towards the vines. This is less about observing Bordeaux wine country from afar and more about spending a few days quietly within it.

Wine Where It Begins

A cellar tasting is included with our farmhouse stay, bringing us closer to the wine being produced around us. We can taste current wines while learning about the vineyard, its clay-limestone soils and the winemaking process directly from the people behind the estate.

If we want to explore further, additional or more in-depth tastings can be arranged, and vineyard walks offer another way to understand the land behind each vintage. Yet wine never needs to become a formal itinerary—we can just as easily return to the farmhouse and enjoy a bottle overlooking the vines.

A Farmhouse to Ourselves

Part of the pleasure here is having an entire country home rather than an individual hotel room. The farmhouse has its own kitchen and dining spaces, a comfortable living room with a working fireplace, and a private terrace overlooking the vineyard.

We can bring home ingredients from local markets, cook together, gather around the table for a long lunch or spend a cooler evening beside the fire. With the house reserved exclusively for us, days can follow our own rhythm—particularly suited to families or friends wanting to experience wine country together.

Further Into Bordeaux

When we feel like leaving the quiet of the estate, some of the celebrated wine landscapes and historic villages are within easy reach. We can have a day exploring neighbouring vineyards, markets and countryside before we return to the farmhouse in the evening.

But there is an appealing simplicity to staying close: walking among the vines, tasting wine in the cellar and watching another evening settle over the vineyard.
