Engadin: An Alpine Food Tasting in the Mountains

The Experience

Deep within the mountains, the landscape becomes part of the meal. Following the valley's walking or cycling trails, we arrive at a simple Alpine farm surrounded by open meadows, shaded woodland and mountain streams. Here, food remains closely connected to its setting, with homemade specialties served in the peaceful surroundings of the Engadin mountains.

We settle in to discover some of the farm's much-loved flavours: homemade fresh cheese served with tomato and basil, fresh yoghurt and Kaiserschmarrn. Rather than a formal tasting, the experience is wonderfully uncomplicated—a chance to sample traditional homemade food and spend time in a working Alpine landscape. At the mountain farm further into the valley, these simple dishes can be enjoyed on the terrace with clear views towards the surrounding peaks.

We sit among the mountains with fresh cheese, yoghurt and something sweet from the kitchen, allowing the landscape to set the pace of the afternoon. Meadows stretch beyond the terrace, streams run through the valley and there is nowhere we need to hurry to next—a gentle taste of Alpine life in its natural setting.
