Cape Town: A Seasonal Botanical Workshop

We spend a slow morning immersed in Cape Town’s botanical world, joining a hands-on creative workshop shaped by the season. Rather than following the same experience throughout the year, the programme changes across the botanical calendar — inviting us to work with plants, flowers and natural materials in a different way depending on when we visit. Workshops are held primarily in Wynberg, with selected sessions taking place at partner venues elsewhere around Cape Town and the Winelands.

Inspired by the Season

Each visit brings something different. We might create a tropical or orchid terrarium, learn to propagate indigenous fynbos, grow plants from seed, make botanical relief art or explore another plant-led craft. The 2026 calendar also includes seasonal workshops in eco-printing, bonsai, succulent frames and other forms of botanical making.

Making with Our Hands

Whatever is taking place during our stay, the experience is designed to be relaxed and hands-on. We settle into the studio, work slowly through the process with guidance and discover some of the knowledge behind growing, arranging or creating with plants. Materials and equipment required for the workshops are provided.

Something Different Each Time

Part of the charm is not knowing exactly what the season will bring. One month might be devoted to tiny living landscapes beneath glass, while another turns towards fynbos, propagation or botanical art. It makes the experience feel connected to the time of year rather than like something reproduced identically every day. 

We come to create with the botanical world, and linger for the simple pleasure of making something slowly with our hands.
