Cape Town: A Private Farm Stay among Orchards & Vines

We stay on a private working farm in the Cape Winelands, where vineyards and fruit orchards stretch towards the mountains and the Berg River winds quietly through the land. Life here feels wonderfully removed from the outside world. With the estate reserved entirely for us, days unfold between the farmhouse, gardens, vines and orchards, giving us the rare feeling of having a little piece of the countryside almost entirely to ourselves.

A Farmhouse to Call Our Own

At the centre of the stay is a generous farmhouse arranged around a peaceful inner courtyard, with spaces made for gathering slowly rather than passing through. A library and fireplace invite quieter mornings, while vine-covered patios look outward towards the vineyards and mountains. Elsewhere on the farm, additional rooms sit among the vines and an old coach house offers another, more secluded corner of the estate.

The pleasure comes from having the entire place to ourselves. We can gather around a long table, disappear into the garden with a book, swim beneath the mountains or simply allow everyone to find their own rhythm before coming together again in the evening.

Life among Orchards & Vines

This is still very much a working landscape. Grapes, apples, citrus, figs and kiwi grow across the farm, and we can wander through the orchards and vineyards or join an optional guided farm tour to understand more about what is being cultivated around us. When the seasons allow, guests can even pick fruit and grapes directly from the land.

Closer to the house, a vegetable and herb garden becomes part of everyday life. We can gather something fresh for the kitchen, follow paths through the grounds or walk down towards the river without needing to turn the experience into an itinerary.

Long Tables & Slow Afternoons

Food can become as relaxed or celebratory as we want it to be. Private catering and chef experiences can be arranged, allowing breakfasts, long lunches and dinners to unfold around the estate rather than requiring us to leave it. Tables can find their way beneath old trees, into the courtyard or out towards the orchards and vineyards.

And between meals, there is little pressure to do very much. We can swim, play tennis among the citrus trees, walk through the farm, take a creative or cooking class, or settle beneath the vines as afternoon slowly turns into evening.

The Winelands beyond the Farm

When we eventually feel like leaving, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are both around twenty minutes away, placing some of the Cape Winelands' vineyards, restaurants and small-town life within easy reach.

But this feels like one of those stays where we might make plans to explore and then quietly abandon them. There is something particularly lovely about waking on a working farm, walking outside with nowhere urgent to go, and letting the landscape provide enough for the day.

We come for a farmhouse among the vines, and linger for the feeling that, for a little while, the whole farm belongs to us.
