Barcelona: A Traditional Catalan Calçotada at a Countryside Farmhouse
In the beautiful Catalan countryside, we discover a beloved seasonal tradition where food, fire and togetherness come naturally. Surrounded by peaceful rural landscapes, this farmhouse invites us to gather with friends and family for an authentic calçotada, enjoying freshly grilled calçots, local produce and the simple pleasure of sharing a meal outdoors.
The Experience
A Traditional Farmhouse in the Countryside
Our experience takes us to a charming rural estate in Santa Maria de Merlès, surrounded by the rolling landscapes of Berguedà and Lluçanès. Here, traditional farm life and organic agriculture shape the atmosphere, offering a peaceful setting for a private gathering away from the city.
The Art of a Catalan Calçotada
At the heart of our visit is the traditional calçotada, a seasonal Catalan gathering centred around calçots, tender spring onions grilled over an open fire. We embrace this much-loved ritual, peeling away the charred outer layers and enjoying the smoky flavours, traditionally accompanied by a rich dipping sauce and freshly grilled meats.
A Long Lunch Around the Fire
Gathered beneath a rustic covered terrace, we enjoy a leisurely countryside lunch surrounded by the warmth of the fire and the company of loved ones. With the space reserved exclusively for our group, we can choose to prepare the meal ourselves or arrange a private cook, creating a relaxed afternoon filled with good food and conversation.
