Bali: A Farm-to-Table Cooking Experience on an Organic Farm
In the green countryside north of Ubud, we step away from Bali’s busier streets and into a working organic farm. Here, the journey from garden to table becomes part of the experience itself, as we discover seasonal ingredients, harvest directly from the land and prepare traditional Balinese food in an open-air kitchen.
The Experience
From the Garden
We begin among tropical fruit trees, herbs, vegetables and Balinese spices cultivated using organic farming methods. The experience introduces us to the farm and the seasonal ingredients growing within it, with opportunities to gather produce ourselves before taking it into the kitchen.
Cooking the Balinese Way
In the open-air kitchen, local instructors guide us through traditional Balinese recipes and techniques rooted in their own family cooking. Fresh ingredients harvested from the farm become part of the dishes we prepare, connecting what grows outside with what eventually arrives on our plate.
From Farm to Table
Once the cooking is complete, we sit down to enjoy what we have prepared. The menus follow the seasons, while ingredients not grown on the farm are sourced through local Balinese farmers, markets and producers. It is a thoughtful expression of island cooking shaped by freshness, tradition and the surrounding land.

Beyond the Experience
Different classes allow us to experience the farm at different rhythms. Morning sessions can include a traditional market visit before arriving at the farm, while afternoon classes focus on the farm walk, ingredient picking, cooking and an early dinner. An evening option brings the experience into dusk, ending with a Balinese dinner beneath the night sky.
An Invitation
There is something beautifully grounding about gathering an ingredient from the soil, learning how it belongs within Balinese cooking and later tasting it at the table. Between the gardens, open-air kitchen and shared meal, we experience Bali through something wonderfully simple—the relationship between its land, its food and the people who continue its culinary traditions.
